Our New Profitability Blog Look

Our regular readers have probably noticed the not-so-subtle transformation of our blog.  I'm pretty excited about it because we're hoping to expand the discussion a bit and add additional perspective.  As always, the goal will remain the same: provide you with meaningful ways to improve your company or organizational profitability in language that's easy to understand.  Many ideas are simple, but that's what makes them so effective.  We'll continue to reference emerging and established best practices that we think are worth your time exploring.

In the spirit of Follow Fridays (#FF) on twitter, we've added a blogroll to our blog.  The blogs featured here are blogs that we think are worth sharing with you as part of the broader discussion about improving profitability and organizational performance.  I'd highlight a couple of them in more detail.

  • Mary Driscoll is a well respected author, editor and lecturer.  She's currently a research fellow at APQC. Mary has a good pulse on what CFOs are wrestling with, which she covers in her blog, The Analytical Yield.
  • Jon Hill is COO of Avisen plc, a UK-based provider of Business Performance Management solutions.  Jon advises clients on Strategy Execution, Governance Design, Performance Management, Finance Transformation, Post Merger Integration, Shared Service Implementation, Six Sigma, Lean Process and Change Management.  He's extremely knowledgeable on all sorts of topics and you'll appreciate his no-nonsense style in his blog, A View from the Hill.
  • Authors Paul Dittmann and Reuben Slone offer their thoughts on top-of-mind issues facing today's supply chain executives in their blog, The New Supply Chain Agenda.  Their systems thinking perspective reaches beyond the supply chain as they encourage better decision making through collaboration.
  • Steve Player has been blogging about the need for continuous planning for quite some time now.  He's been a big part of the Beyond Budgeting movement, pushing for a more streamlined financial planning process.  We think you'll find value in his blog, The Finance Transformation.
  • Maud Vermeulen is co-founder of Sonum International, a Dutch-based provider of planning, budgeting, forecasting and profitability management solutions.  Maud's very passionate about integrating the financial planning functions with profitability management, which you'll discover reading her blog, Value Added Planning.
  • I've referenced Fred Wilson's MBA Mondays in my posts on a couple of occasions.  Fred's a venture capitalist and often writes about business topics with great clarity.  Many of his topics are relevant to business in general, not just early or late stage start-up ventures.

We're hoping to be adding more as time goes on, so if you have any suggestions, please join the conversation.

Nice job and these are important topics. It is useful to have the blogroll as well. I still think that understanding costs is only half the equation. You have to look outside of your own company and see how you are creating differentiated value for your customers and understand how your competitors are responding.

Steven,

You're absolutely right. Read my post on Serving Markets of One, Profitably. I would imagine you and your solution could add value towards those strategies.

Yes, it was a very good post. I had a comment on it but it somehow went poof. I will try again tomorrow. One problem with the current state of social media is that comments get scattered across the blog, LinkedIn groups, FaceBook, ... and the conversation does not coalesce.
