Maines Paper & Foodservice, Inc. to Implement Acorn Systems Profit Optimization Software Enterprise-Wide

Software Provides Order-level Profitability Information

Conklin, NY — December 2, 2002 — Maines Paper & Foodservice, Inc. (MPFS), the nation's fifth largest foodservice distributor, today announced that it will implement Acorn Systems Profit Analyzer™ software on an enterprise basis.

Acorn Systems Profit Analyzer will enable MPFS to gain increased accuracy, more actionable information and greater accessibility to its profit and loss information. Acorn's software can optimize the profitability of any customer, supplier, product or order dynamically or on an ongoing basis. MPFS can use this new visibility into net operating profits and profit drivers to identify and expand best practices, negotiate for "win-win" profitability increases with customers and suppliers, optimize incoming orders, identify and grow the most profitable products and customers, and empower employees to drive profitability.

"In making this selection, we spoke with several Acorn Systems clients and received very positive feedback on the increased accuracy and accessibility of the data and the reduced maintenance cost of the system," said Bill Mastrosimone, CFO of MPFS. "These factors, coupled with the tremendous value Acorn Systems has delivered to its customers via their technology innovation and subject matter expertise in the costing/profit arena, convinced us that we needed to implement Acorn Systems to further our business performance initiatives."

"Acorn adds value to our mission of profitably serving customers by highlighting the true costs to serve, empowering our employees with actionable intelligence, and utilizing technology as a strategic enabler of this mission," said Chris Mellon, CEO of MPFS. "We envision Acorn playing a mission critical role in Maines future."

"MPFS has long been a leader in the Foodservice Industry," said J. Alex Fernandez, COO of Acorn Systems. "We are very pleased to have this opportunity to work with such a visionary leader. By leveraging MPFS best of class IT systems data, and empowering their knowledge workers with accurate order level profit and loss information, MPFS will operate more efficiently and profitably."

Acorn Systems solution does not need the regular manual updating required by Activity Based Costing systems, so it will deliver actionable data on demand without end-of-the-period delay and it is less expensive and resource intensive for MPFS to maintain.

With Acorn Systems Profit Analyzer, MPFS will have rules-based enterprise-wide access to costing data without delay, so profit and loss information is available to the employees who can most benefit from it, when and where they need this information, not after the fact. MPFS P&L and sales executives will be able to use Acorn Systems Profit Analyzer Activity Based Costing Software to view the accurate costing information of each customer, supplier and product down to the individual line item level of each order.
