Acorn Systems Unveils Its Profit Optimizer

Software enables businesses to instantly negotiate, structure customer orders for optimum profitability

Houston, TX — August 20, 2001 — Acorn Systems, the leader in profit management solutions, announced today the release of its Profit Optimizer, and the company’s move to provide a complete enterprise solution for businesses to measure, optimize and predict net operating profits.

“With the release of this product, Acorn is leveraging its profit management expertise and expanding it across the enterprise,” says Leland Putterman, CEO of Acorn Systems. “Profit Optimizer enables businesses to evaluate the past, present and future profitability of each customer order in real time.”

“Not every customer order is profitable,” explains Putterman. “There are many factors that contribute to an order’s real cost to an organization. As companies develop and deploy value-added services, and increase product lines and distribution channels, the risk of losing money on individual orders and specific customers increases exponentially. Profit Optimizer can gauge the profit potential of a purchase quote and calculate the most profitable alternative in a matter of seconds.”

According to Putterman, Profit Optimizer uses a patent-pending, fully automated technology that allows users to structure customer orders instantly for maximum profitability. Profit Optimizer was developed to complement Acorn’s flagship product, Profit Analyzer, the leading software tool for controlling and managing profits.

“Large organizations should evaluate a vast number of factors involved in fulfilling customer orders before the deal is signed, “ he notes. “Until now, this type of evaluation was too time consuming and allusive to be practical for most businesses. Profit Optimizer not only automates the profitability analysis of customer orders, it immediately puts the data at the finger tips of sales reps while they negotiate and structure customer contracts.”

J&B Wholesale, a $350 million food production and distribution company in the Midwest and longtime customer of Acorn Systems, is the first organization to purchase Acorn’s Profit Optimizer.

"From what Acorn has shown us, Profit Optimizer will give us the ability to understand profits in real-time – as we write every order,” said Kurt Anderson, director of Operations and Information Technology with J&B Wholesale. “Our sales reps will have the information they need to profitability configure and calculate orders, and I’ll be able to accurately measure profits throughout the quarter."

Joseph Morris, Acorn’s Chief Technology Officer, outlines Profit Optimizer’s key benefits:

  • Profit Control — Real-time information about every order allows organizations to negotiate the most profitable terms and conditions of customer orders, and thus better monitor and control the level of profitability as the order is placed.
  • Profitability Measurement — With snap-shots of past orders available, CEOs have the information available to determine what makes orders profitable and why.
  • Business Realignment — Because this tool instantly analyzes and preserves order information, businesses can quickly realign sales team goals to ensure fiscal targets are met.
